The East Anglian Mark Benevolent Association (EAMBA) has made another major grant to a benefit communities in the Province. Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue has been awarded £5,165 which has been used to purchase a replacement drone, further enhancing their capabilities when searching for high risk and vulnerable missing persons.

The new model has more up to date technology and gives longer flight time, better weather resistance and an improved thermal capability. It will be used by their two drone pilots and it’s use has already been called upon by the Environment Agency to provide ariel imagery for flooding situations in Cambridgeshire.

This grant follows a similar donation to Norfolk Lowland Search and Rescue, providing sonar equipment for underwater searches. Both organisations are operated by volunteers and rely on donations to fund their vital work assisting the police and other organisations.

Provincial Grand Master David Boswell, his Deputy Gary Allen and Past Provincial Charity Steward Trevor Tinley made the presentation to Cambs SAR at their base in Ely, where they were given a demonstration of the new drone by pilot Wayne Bent. Executive Committee Chairman Barry Carter said, “The team is extremely grateful for this donation and the support shown to help us keep pace with drone technology.” David Boswell added, “We are proud to support search and rescue teams throughout East Anglia. All of the volunteers are passionate about the work they carry out and the time they put in. Seeing the new equipment in action shows how vital this work is for the safety of people in our communities throughout East Anglia.”
